Business Echo is an interview series celebrating the incredible individuals shaping the Okanagan business landscape. Through candid conversations, we’ll dive into their journeys, challenges, and triumphs, offering inspiration and insights along the way.
With a career that spans Copenhagen, Brussels, and now Kelowna, Kirsten Moxness has built a legacy in massage, wellness, and relaxation. From founding SlowMotion, a pioneering Danish clinic that introduced workplace massage as one of the country’s most valued employee benefits - to working in one of Brussels’ most exclusive spas, Kirsten has spent decades redefining how individuals and companies approach well-being.
In 2020, she launched Moxness Massage in Kelowna, bringing her international expertise to the Okanagan. Over the past five years, she has grown a loyal clientele, built a trusted space for healing, and most recently, earned bronze in Naturopathy Massage & Bodywork at the Best of Kelowna 2025.
A therapist, entrepreneur, and community-builder, Kirsten continues to shape the wellness landscape in Kelowna with a focus on balance, renewal, and care. In this interview, she reflects on her journey, celebrates five years of Moxness Massage, and shares what’s next.
OE: Hello! thank you for granting this interview, could you please tell us a little about yourself
KM: I come from Denmark where my family was active in gymnastics and all kinds of sports and physical movement. That led me to becoming a Danish-qualified massage and relaxation therapist. I ran my own massage and wellness company, 'Slowmotion', in Copenhagen for 14 years. In addition to my clinic, I was a pioneer in job massage, which became one of the most appreciated employee benefits in Denmark. My clients included McDonald’s Denmark Corporate Office, Dell Computer’s Scandinavian call centre, and the largest law firm in Denmark. That kept me and my 14 employees busy!

OE: You’ve built a career in massage and wellness across Europe before moving to the Okanagan. What drew you here, and how did Moxness Massage come to life?
KM: I was educated in Copenhagen and ran my clinic there for 14 years. My husband’s work took us to Brussels, where I worked in the most high-end spa in the city.
In 2018, we relocated to Kelowna to be closer to my husband’s parents. Moxness massage came to life in September 2020, and for the past 4 years, I have been located in Artisan Studio on Ambrosi Road.
OE: This year marks 5 years of Moxness Massage. Looking back, what are you most proud of about this milestone?
KM: Having established a wonderful clientele that books regularly is something I am very proud of.
Another big milestone was winning the bronze in Naturopathy massage and bodywork in Best of Kelowna 2025, and I am grateful for that recognition from the community.

OE: Wellness can mean different things to different people. How do you define it at Moxness Massage?
KM: For me, wellness is feeling good in your body, in your mind, and in your soul
Relaxing massage stimulates the blood circulation and your lymph system, and that leaves you feeling better after a massage. I also know that music has a big impact on your mind, so I have selected playlists with relaxing music for your sessions.
At Moxness Massage, I have created a warm and welcoming space that resonates wellness!
OE: What role do you see massage playing in long-term health and preventative care?
KM: Massage has been around since ancient Greece and still plays a big role in preventative care.
You go to the hairdresser and dentist regularly, and you should get regular massages to improve blood circulation and sleep, and to reduce your stress levels.
Massage also has benefits in other situations, too. I work for Amy at her @thechicexperience events and @Okanagancorporateretreats, where massage gives participants a break from other activities! Relaxing on the table after educational sessions helps participants unwind and reflect on the information they have absorbed during the day.
Helping people understand the value of regular massage is a big part of preventative care!

OE: What’s a piece of advice you’d give to women looking to start their own business?
KM: I would advise women to learn as much as they can. It’s important to know a lot about what you will be offering, but it’s just as important to learn how a business works. Before I launched my first business in Denmark, I took a course for new entrepreneurs. That was a great first step to learn about running a business!
You also have to show up for your business and understand that success depends on you. Even today, more than thirty years after my first entrepreneurial experience, I attend networking sessions to meet and learn from other entrepreneurs and to meet potential new clients, too.
OE: If you had unlimited funds for one day, what’s the first thing you’d do for your business?
KM: I would find a great conference to attend that could help me become even better at my craft.

OE: What’s your favorite Okanagan spot to relax or find inspiration?
KM: My absolute favourite place is my wonderful deck with the view of the rolling mountains here in Kelowna. To recharge and relax, I go to Connie @resonatewellnesskelowna. Her @harmonicEgg helps me find peace within myself!. I also enjoy the cold plunge and sauna that Kelly has at @sonawellness. I always leave there feeling very relaxed! It’s absolutely worth it!
OE: What’s one thing about you that people might not know?
KM: I was a folksinger, (Danish/English) and played guitar in my younger days
